Coordinated research activities across different sectors and countries

At present research and development of practical tools is carried out by many different disciplines and sectors in different countries. A more integrated information base drawn from different stakeholders across Europe and elsewhere will enable the identification of possible synergies and leverage from national and other programmes. The network will:

  • Establish an information base of programmes, projects, project results and state of the art on sustainable reuse of brownfield sites
  • Identify research gaps and recommend priorities and detailed objectives for new research Stimulate integration of different countries' and stakeholders' research and development activities
  • Provide a structured forum for discussion of research projects on brownfield rehabilitation
  • Provide an effective mechanism to link to other networks in Europe and further afield working on related issues

The improved awareness and common understanding developed through the network will also help to generate new multi-disciplinary research ideas. Together these are expected to stimulate further coordinated and focussed EU research and development of tools. CABERNET expects to stimulate at least 2 new

collaborative projects per year. In the first year this is likely to involve cooperation among stakeholders in different countries, in subsequent years the aim will be cross-stakeholder collaboration.
